The Food Waste Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015
From 1st April 2015, waste operators must collect and transport separately any food waste that is presented separately.
From 1st April 2016, food businesses that produce more than 50kg of food waste per week must present that food waste for separate collection. (A food business is further described as an undertaking, whether for profit or not, and whether public or private, carrying out any activity related to the processing, distribution, preparation or sale of food.)
From 1st April 2017, food businesses that produce 5kg to 50kg of food waste per week to present that food waste for separate collection
From 1st April 2017, food businesses must ensure that food waste is not deposited in a lateral drain or sewer.
NWP is working closely with all customers and potential customers to ensure full compliance with these new regulations is achieved in a timely, cost effective manner.
NWP welcomes the introduction of Food Waste Regulations. These new laws will help reduce volumes of recyclable food waste and other organic matter ending up in the black or general waste bin destined for landfill.
